Comparison

RunWeather vs AccuWeather for runners

AccuWeather is a full weather service that also rates running: one rating per day, from Poor to Ideal, on its website. RunWeather goes finer: every hour gets a 0-100 Run Score from a published model built on dew point and WBGT heat strain, with the best time to run named and the pace cost spelled out. For storms, minute-by-minute rain and long-range outlooks, AccuWeather is stronger; for choosing the hour and pacing it, RunWeather is.

AccuWeather does a lot well. RealFeel, its feels-like temperature, folds in sun, wind, humidity and more. MinuteCast forecasts rain minute by minute for the next 4 hours. The free app gives up to 120 hours of hourly forecast with a free login, and Premium+ ($29.99 a year or $4.99 a month in the US) removes ads in the app and stretches the hourly forecast to 10 days and the daily to 90.

It even has a Running forecast, under Health & Activities on accuweather.com: one rating per day for the coming week, Ideal, Great, Good, Fair or Poor, with a tip such as staying hydrated. That tells you whether Thursday looks better than Wednesday. It cannot tell you whether 6am beats 5pm on the same day, when the dew point drops overnight, or when WBGT heat strain crosses a safety line. RunWeather scores each hour, so the answer is a time, not a day.

When AccuWeather is the better pick

For severe weather, hurricanes, radar and lightning, and for rain timing to the minute, AccuWeather is the stronger app. If you plan a race weekend weeks ahead, its long-range daily outlooks go much further than any running forecast can. And if a day-level "good or fair for running" is all you need, it is already there.

When RunWeather earns its place

If you choose when in the day to run, the gap between hours is often bigger than the gap between days, most of all in summer, when a humid afternoon and a cooler dawn score very differently. RunWeather scores each hour with thresholds it publishes, names the best window, and after the run shows what the weather added to your pace.
