Overview

RunWeather (“we”, “us”) helps runners make better training decisions by scoring running conditions from weather data. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over your data. It applies to the RunWeather mobile app and the RunWeather.app website.

Who We Are

RunWeather is the data controller for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@runweather.app.

What We Collect

  • Location. With your permission, your device's GPS location, plus any locations you save in the app, so we can fetch the right local forecast and score your conditions. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
  • Account & device identifiers. A device-generated identifier we use to keep your settings, saved locations, and subscription in sync. RunWeather does not require you to create an account with an email and password to use the app.
  • Strava data (optional). If you connect Strava, we import your run activities and related metrics (route, pace, heart rate, timestamps) to add weather context and insights. You can disconnect Strava at any time.
  • Subscription & purchase data. When you subscribe, your purchase is processed by Apple or Google. We receive subscription status (active, expired, trial) — never your full payment card details.
  • Usage & diagnostics. App events, feature usage, device type and OS version, crash reports, and performance data, used to operate and improve the product.
  • Session recordings. We record in-app session replays (screens viewed and interactions) to understand how the app is used and to fix usability problems. See “Session Replay” below for details and how to opt out.
  • Contact data. If you email us, send feedback, or subscribe to product updates, we collect your email address and the content you send.
  • Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, a device token so we can send daily run-condition alerts.

How We Use Data

We use your data to deliver weather-aware run scoring and forecasts, generate run insights, sync your subscription and settings, send notifications you've enabled, diagnose crashes and performance issues, understand product usage, and respond to your messages.

Service Providers We Share Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We share the minimum necessary data with the following processors so the app can function:

  • RevenueCat — subscription management.
  • PostHog — product analytics and session replay.
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting.
  • Strava — activity import, only if you connect it.
  • OpenAI — generating run insights. Relevant run and weather data is sent to produce your insight; it is not used to train their models.
  • Mapbox — rendering static maps of your run routes.
  • Open-Meteo — weather forecasts (receives location coordinates, no identity).
  • Apple & Google — app distribution and payment processing.

Some of these providers process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Session Replay

We use PostHog session replay to record how people use the app — the screens they view and the actions they take. These recordings are not masked, which means on-screen content may be captured. We use them only to improve usability and fix issues, retain them for a limited period, and never sell them. You can opt out by emailing hello@runweather.app and we will exclude your device and delete existing recordings on request.

Data Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Diagnostic and session-replay data is retained for a limited period and then deleted or anonymized. When you delete your account, we delete the associated data as described below.

Your Rights & Controls

Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and the California CCPA), you have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email hello@runweather.app.

You can delete your account and data directly in the app under Settings, revoke location or notification permissions in your device settings, and disconnect Strava at any time. EU/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

Children

RunWeather is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
